This although may not be the fanciest, is a very cozy hotel. Good sized rooms and what is great is the fact that the location is good and convenient. The staff is helpful and perhaps the only let down was the fact there there was no wifi connectivity. Which in all honesty did not matter.
There were plenty of good things about the hotel but the best was their breakfast menu. With a variety of food items from eggs, pasteries, salad, meat and even rice, you could easily call it a brunch. Just wonderful!
The hotel is very peaceful and quiet... very beautiful rooms too...It’s a beauty with quiet surroundings but lots of shopping areas too. Very clean place and food is delicious, hotel staffs very helpful and polite.
Stay almost three weeks here for a conference. The hotel is in a great location and is with waking distance of many shops and eateries. The historic nature of the hotel adds to its charm and it is a great place to stay. The best part about the hotel is its staff. What a wonderful and professional group of people. Always polite and willing to make your stay and experience the best possible. I cannot say enough about how well the staff treated everyone, and will almost 300 people attending for two weeks they had a big job on their hands. Thank you Yak & Yeti staff for all that you did for us. You made out time here truly memorable.
Here are my reasons for the above title;
--centrally located
Yes, there are a few negatives but I wish to only focus on the POSITIVES as stated above and below.
Now I can go on and on but in my humble opinion, I must say the LEADER of this 40 year old ship is the GENERAL MANAGER, Monika. In my brief meetings with her she came across as a true professional, VERY POLITE in her dealings with ALL GUESTS, really passionate about her position and extremely caring for her "A" team of humble staff. Believe you me, if YOU need to experience 5* hospitality, THIS IS THE HOTEL TO STAY AT.
Coming from the land of EDMUND HILARY, I certainly recommend this beauty to my network of friends in New Zealand, Australia and around the globe.
Overall--9/10
This is the only place to stay in Kathmandu. I’ve been lucky enough to stay here 4 times now. The staff are fantastic, the tranquility of the gardens is wonderful, I love the ducks in the pond that get out to bed safely in their little duck houses every night. I love the historic grand building and the quiet but friendly and efficient service. A peaceful oasis in all the crazy chaos and dust of Kathmandu. Luxury linen and the most comfortable beds make your stay an unforgettable and relaxing experience.
I love this hotel. I highly recommend you stay next time you’re in Kathmandu!
Visited Kathmandu on business tour & stayed in this hotel. The rooms have centralized AC with temperature control switch. Has a flat TV, minibar and all such amenities in the room. Garden facing rooms have excellent view. In all excellent experience
Really enjoyed the amenities and the staff is all so kind and service oriented - very centrally located and convenient for dining, shopping and tours. Beautiful gardens and relaxing lounge as well as a wide variety of food options - the best hotel service I have encountered anywhere!
Located centrally in the heart of Kathmandu,is a heritage and one of the most oldest hotel in the vicinity. The rooms are good and the housekeeping is excellent. Special mention to the manager Mr.Jatin shrestha who is extremely professional and courteous. The hotel is well laid out and we had a fantastic stay. Will return in future.

Stayed here for 2 nights on a business trip in March after staying further south in the country in Lahan.
Can’t praise this hotel enough on every aspect; service, food, rooms, cleanliness and gardens were excellent!
I will be back to this lovely country and it’s welcoming people and when I do, I won’t hesitate to stay in the Yak and Yeti.
Three takeaways from Yak and Yeti:
Hotel Yak and Yeti provided for us a few days of quiet luxury and rejuvenation amidst a hectic holiday in Nepal and Bhutan. The moment we entered we were greeted with cold lemonade and a warm reception. The staff were efficient and generous always doing their best to help in whatever way possible. The rooms are very comfortable and air conditioned. The bathroom was clean. Ask for a garden facing room if possible as the grounds an oasis of green with hundreds of colourful flowers and a small stream with ducks and geese. A tranquil swimming pool is nearby. The meals can be ala carte or there is an excellent buffet for breakfast or dinner. After a few days of hectic travelling it was a very welcome respite.
My son and I stayed at the Yak & Yeti for a four night stay. We found it extremely clean, with good facilities and very comfortable and in a very good location. The breakfast and evening meal options were wide and varied and well presented and tasty. We felt very safe and very much enjoyed our stay.
The Yak and Yeti made my stay in Kathmandu very comfortable. First class hotel! Everything is clean and spotless. Wonderful varied buffet breakfast we started our days with. Behind the hotel is their pool which is in a quiet garden setting and nice to relax around. All the staff were very attentive to my needs. For a small amount more, I extended my check out 8 hours longer due to my late flight out.
This is a large heritage hotel, now celebrating 40 years, but I wouldn't have guessed it to be that old. Everything looked modern and updated to me. It is a large hotel, with a surprisingly large lobby and garden area for being in such a busy, crowded, downtown location. While on the hotel grounds you don't really feel "downtown". The staff was great, always helpful and friendly. My room was clean and well appointed. The restaurant was wonderful, with a lovely breakfast buffet. It is an easy walk to shopping and restaurants, and not too far a drive to the airport. Wifi is available for a price.
The international breakfast buffet alone is worth staying here for! They really bend over backwards to do any and everything they can to spoil you. We're having the time of our lives!
The building is very nice and quite impressive when you reach the hotel. However the standard rooms are very average, as well as food and service Great location though, being walking distance from Thamel.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Yak & Yeti this year! The hotel is an oasis amidst the bustling Durbarmarg in Kathmandu city. It is pretty close to the airport and the location is perfect. Team is superb and extremely warm. I stayed here for more than two weeks and every day I felt relaxed and taken care of. You can feel the warmth from the moment you step inside the hotel. People would sincerely greet and welcome you. Food is delicious. Team is very warm and helpful. Service in the restaurant is by far the most quickest service I have ever come across. This is generally missing in most of the new age swanky hotels, where one feels intimidated. The most enchanting part of the hotel is the gorgeous flower garden and a beautiful pond with fish and ducks swimming around. I could sit there all day :). All in all, a great place to be!!
Hotel is on the durbar Marg but not on the road you have to walk , the hotel is old style but food is average at the restaurant. Hotel from inside is average not what is expected from 5 star . Swimming pool is also average.
A beautiful hotel with a lovely garden and swimming pool. The rooms are clean and spacious. Great service from all the staff. A very nice buffet breakfast. Location is also good. Close to the Ason bazaar.

My stay in Yak & Yeti was in Feb 2018, for a conference being held in the same hotel. My room overlooked the spacious lawns that were used for lunch and socials. The room was smallish, but clean. There was a ledge by the window where one could sit and watch the lawns below. The toilet was neat although basic.
Internet was fast by Nepal standards. The breakfast spread had local, Indian and continental fare, and was adquate without being lavish. The staff were very friendly.
Overall, a good place, with a great location and well-deserved image of a modern property with traditional values.

This hotel was a delight. The lobby was very spacious and clean. There was lots of natural light with plenty of windows. Our room was clean, spacious and pleasant. The breakfast room was efficient with staff being very attentive and friendly. Our bed was comfortable and the overall feel was good.
We walked to restaurants nearby and other nice shops thus the location was very convenient to all that we wanted..
Three takeaways from Yak and Yeti:
Incredible food!
Feels like being in a classic hotel from the 70-80s, it would not be hard to imagine the conversations of legendary climbers and mountaineers in the hotel lobby. Very Nepali and warm.
Hitesh Sharma may be the greatest concierge to ever live. I had a broken MacBook Pro that was quoted at hundreds of pounds to fix in the U.K. Hitesh got the laptop fixed for 70 US dollars while I was trekking the Annapurna circuit and did so will the greatest touch of true hospitality. Ask for him at reception, and he will sort out for sure!
This hotel is clean and safe, not exactly easy to come by in Kathmandu. This was recommended to me by my tour guide who highly recommended it. The grounds were well maintained and beautiful. The rooms had a lot of traditional nepalese character but were clean with good water pressure.
The restaurant and bar downstairs were good to grab something quick before heading out on daily adventures.
The concierge floor was particularly great for a quiet breakfast and evening snack/drink/tea break.
as the title says this is my home from home while in Nepal as ever I love this hotel returned in 2017 for Dashain festival time as ever my guide was Uttara fantastic lady also used Vespa valley for a vespa ride around Kathmandu fantastic food safari
As a footnote this is the hotel Beck Weathers used to recover after the ill fated climb on Everest
